“I create UltraRealistic paintings with interesting compositions, intriguing shapes and bold colors.”
Banning began painting in the early 1970s in California where he sold his work along the Venice boardwalk. After briefly attending art school he began to teach himself to paint by copying expressionist works of Gauguin, Matisse, Van Gogh, Chagall, and other modern masters. He experimented with different styles and media, producing hundreds of paintings in oil, acrylic, mixed media and making assemblages while working in Los Angeles, Miami and Austin. His work resides in many in private collections from Beverly Hills to Scottsdale to Palm Beach, now enjoyed by Oscar winners, professionals, and art lovers of all vocations. Visually challenged, he is drawn to bright colors and how they tell stories whether serious, whimsical, or thought provoking, often using his travel photos as source material. He holds a PhD in psychology and his award-winning educational documentaries are in the permanent collections of over 7,500 academic libraries around the world. Banning is a student of life and art and loves to engage in conversation about art, life, philosophy or about any other subject with creative and thoughtful minds. His paintings are priced reasonably, and new collectors are welcome.
